Through an oversight on my part, my checking account was overdrawn by a few dollars. As soon as I found out, I went to bank and deposited enough plus a few dollars extra. I was told at the bank that everything was OK. I haven't used the account since then because I knew there wasn't much in it. Eleven days later I got a letter telling me I'm overdrawn again and they have been adding fees for eleven days. Now I am $140 overdrawn and never spent a penny. They even had the nerve to add another overdraft fee. I called the corporate office and was told it wasn't their problem, that the branch didn't have the authority to change anything. I have been with this bank for years and can't believe I'm being treated this way. Is there anything I can do? This is not my fault. I thought I had everything taken care of and was told so at the bank.

If the bank told you on the one hand that things were under control and then reneged on that and started adding fees without any activity on your part, the bank owes you both an explanation and a refund. To dismiss your complaint saying the branch had no authority to change anything is simply unacceptable. If the branch overstepped its bounds, the corporate office should take the matter up with the branch rather than penalize you for relying on the branch's statements.
