Bank Accepts Unendorsed Check: What now?

I recently deposited a check and forgot to sign it. The bank accepted it, and the funds are pending. What will happen?

Probably nothing out of the ordinary will happen. In most states, the absence of an endorsement is no big deal. The bank, in accepting the check for deposit, warrants that its customer was paid or received credit for it.

It is possible that the bank the check is drawn on will return the check for endorsement, in which case your bank may charge it back to your account and send it to you for endorsement. For that reason, allow plenty of time, at least a week, before
withdrawing funds from the deposit in order to avoid an overdraft.
