Bank Holds Funds for 67 Days: What to do?

My boyfriend withdrew some money from his 401K and deposited it into a new checking account that he opened. It's been 67 days and the bank keeps saying they will release the funds but they never do. What can I do? The bank won't tell us anything.

If you are an owner of the account, you can do this, if not, your boyfriend will have to contact the bank and speak to the manager of the office where the account was opened. If he or she cannot give you an answer, ask who in the bank is responsible for the prolonged delay, and find out how to contact him or her. Regardless of the bank's reason for delaying access, the account owner is entitled to an explanation.

If you run into further stonewalling, go to the Bank Find page to learn which of the federal regulatory agencies oversees the bank, and how to file a complaint. You might also consider contacting an attorney.
