I Want Out of Joint Account with Direct Deposit

My boyfriend receives a check that direct deposited from social security. I am on the account and want my name off, due to his spending. He does not want to close it due to the direct deposit. How do I get my name off the account without disrupting his direct deposit? If they won't remove my name, how do I close the account and ensure that he still gets his money?

You have the right to close the account. Talk to the bank. Describe the problem and ask for assistance. Most banks will want a clean closing of the account, and if appropriate, the opening of a new account. The bank should be able to accommodate the efficient transfer of your friend's Social Security payments to a new account, too.
