In reviewing seven years of my sister's Chase jointchecking accountstatements to help her figure out the source of many mysterious deposits into the account after her husband, who controlled their finances almost completely, left her after years of systematically depleting her assets, I noticed that most of the deposits recorded on the statement simply say "DEPOSIT", but quite a few have a number after the word "DEPOSIT". All the numbered deposits took place in 2007, 2008 and 2009, none were earlier, but there were many other unnumbered deposits during the same period of time. These numbers contain a series of digits ranging from four to ten numbers after the word "deposit". What do these numbers mean? They don't appear to be dates, but there appears to be a pattern or system to them. Two deposits made on the same date in 2007 are 3054843773 and 3055413771, but many other of these deposit numbers months apart start with 3054, 3055, and 3053. The shorter numbers also seem related to each other: deposit 61649, then a month later 61456, and a month after that, 61455 but another deposit on the same day as the last one was numbered 90924. Do these numbers identify the account from which the money deposited came? Are the last four digits check numbers, or are they some sort of bank identification number? Any help you can give me would be extremely appreciated.

Your sister, to whom a Chase representative will be able to talk concerning the account, should contact the bank and ask about the mysterious numbers. You should accompany her to a branch, so that you hear what she's told, in case she needs help understanding or remembering it.
