My account number and the account number on my check are off on the last number. Which do I use? When I go to the bank and they ask for my number, I give the one, but when I write a check that has the number that is one number off, it still goes through. Why is this? My husband sent his direct deposit to go to my account and we used the number I knew and not the one that was off on my check. The money has not been deposited. We have to have it to pay bills that are due. what do we do?

Contact your bank about the apparent discrepancy. The bank may be manually repairing checks drawn on your account to make them post correctly. Also ask them about the direct deposit. Normally, it is wise to use the account number on a check to set up direct deposits. If the bank is aware that your husband's direct deposit is set up incorrectly, it may be able to prevent it from being mis-posted or returned, and can help get the employer to update its records so that future deposits are routed correctly.
