I am a seventy year old widow with only social security as income. The bank I use charged a $49.00 NSF fee on each check. Today I received a notice of four late charges on two checks, or $160.00 all together. They charged me $417.98 this month. I only get $862.00 to live on for the entire month. I cannot pay this. Last month they charged me $520.00 Please, tell me how I can get this resolved.

You have started down a debt spiral that you cannot sustain. You have to find a way to stop writing checks and close out your account at this bank. Is there a family member or friend, church or charitable agency who can give you a hand meeting your bills for a month while you pull out of this mess? Try to find a bank that will agree not to pay any checks you write that would overdraw your account, or set up a savings account, and keep your spending within the limits of your financial situation. You may also want to find out whether you qualify for financial assistance on an ongoing basis.
