Can a bank charge overdraftfees when they get both VA and social security checks via direct deposits? They posted the charges a day before they would post my VA deposit.

If your account is overdrawn, it is overdrawn, and a bank would be justified in imposing an overdraft fee, even if it knows that regular monthly direct deposits are pending. Although many banks will pay an overdrawn check when they know that regular deposits are expected, they don't waive the overdraft fees in most cases.
