About the Bank's Posting Methods

I had three transactions not yet cleared in my checking account. I was not aware that I was $.95 short of covering all three. Instead of posting and clearing these transactions one at a time, in which case only the last one would come up insufficient, my bank attempted to clear the three transactions simultaneously, causing them all to come up insufficient, resulting in three insufficient funds charges. Is this legal?

Whether it's legal or not will depend on state law. Ask the bank to document where it informed you about its method for posting checks and assessing overdraft charges. If you call the bank's bluff in a business-like manner, you may convince the bank representative to rebate two of the three charges.
