I just opened a checking account and received eight "starter checks" with my name/address, account number, etc. My regular checks already came in the mail, but I still have my eight starter checks. I very rarely write checks, because I do mostly online banking, but I still write one check a month for my water bill. I'd rather not use my normal checks even though I received them, so as not to waste them. Is there a time limit for how long I can use starter checks? Can I still use these checks until I use them up? If I write one check a month, it will be eight months before I run out of the starter checks.

Do not hold on to the starter checks. They are designed to tide you over until printed checks are supplied; that time has clearly come.
Starter checks are often refused by businesses when new bank customers offer them in payment, because they are wary of typewritten customer names and addresses which can be added by anyone, and because the checks raise the business' concerns about new account fraud. Suffice it to say, pre-printed checks are generally more accepted than starter checks. Shred the starter checks and start using the regular checks.
