Bank Uses Right of Offset After Seven Years?

I had my account debited to cover a supposed account I had seven years ago with a bank my bank recently overtook. I know I closed that account. Is there no statute of limitation? What is the law regarding right of offset in Utah?

We are not familiar with the laws of every state. Debts become inactive and therefore uncollectible at different times in different states, and it can depend on when there was last contact or activity on the account.

If the account was overdrawn it is technically incorrect to say it was closed. It may have been charged off and it may have been taken off the list of active accounts, but the debt is still owed if there was a negative balance. Research the laws of your state with the BBB, state attorney's general or on the web.
