You will need at least one government-issued photo ID of a type that the bank accepts (many banks require a second form of ID). Check with the bank before you go, to determine what its requirements are.
If you have your Social Security number card, bring it with you. Banks are not allowed to open accounts for U.S. citizens without getting their Social Security numbers. The bank will also ask for your date of birth and your street address if it differs from your mailing address. Of course, bring whatever cash or checks you will use to open the account, and make sure to clarify with the new account representative how long you will have to wait to draw on any checks you deposit.
