Who Pays NSF Fees Over $1,000

My checking account has multiple overdraft and NSF charges resulting in the loss of $1,000 from my account. How can I recover any of this money?

The costs for overdrafts can be substantive. If these were caused by your activity, writing checks, using a debit card, having your account automatically debited for a bill, than these are your responsibility. If you made an inadvertent error you may talk to your bank and ask them about a partial refund. Although not required to, banks often do this for good customers.

If the fees are as a result of a bank error, such as mis-crediting a deposit or paying one or more items from the account that you didn't authorize, then they should review this and refund most or all. It depends on what caused the fees.
