I did not cash a check from my employer from back in 2002. I just found it stuck to some old check stubs. I shredded it before even realizing it. What are the chances I can get a new one? Who would I contact and how?
Shredding your private documents is a good thing to do, but so is cashing your checks in a timely manner. Hopefully you have the pieces or remember from what period the check was cut. We suggest calling your employer from that time and telling them you had the check, it was stale dated, you hadn't cashed it and you'd like them to re-issue you a check for the same amount.
The employer will have to research the fact that it is outstanding and will hopefully give you a new check. There really isn't anyone else to go to.
