Opening a Checking Account with Bad History

I am unable to obtain a checking account because of checksystems and some accounts that closed four years ago with outstanding balances. I am working on paying off those outstanding balances, but currently a larger bank has recently acquired my bank and they are closing my account.

Is there any way that I can get another bank to allow me to open a checking account? If not, I have been considering using prepaid debit cards and having my paycheck direct deposited into one of those. Are those a good option? What would be my best action in this situation?

The benefits of having an account at a full service bank far outweigh trying to use a prepaid debit card, which may also require an account. Not all banks have the same standards. Try different banks to inquire as to opening an account. Ask if it matters if you open a savings instead of a checking account. You should be able to find a new bank that will be happy to do business with you.
