Canceling an Auto-Charge

How do I ask bank to change my account number so that a service company I am in a dispute with can no longer take money out of my checking account? I do not want to change banks.

Your bank doesn't want to lose you either, but rather than change account numbers, call your bank and tell them you want to stop this company from auto-charging your account. Make sure you also send a written notice to the service company so that they know you are not allowing them to make any charges directly to your account. Keep a copy of your request. If you were to change account numbers, you have the hassle of outstanding checks not clearing and problems with any other valid auto-charges that are targeted to your current account.
