Can you make a Cashier's Check payable to cash? If no, why?
I don't believe a bank would want to do this. While I don't know that it is prohibited by law, a Cashier's Check is an obligation of the bank. They need to know who it is payable to. "Cash" is the same as "Bearer" which means whoever has it, may cash it.
From the perspective of the person requesting the Cashier's Check, this means that they cannot assume that the intended recipient, and only that recipient, will be able to negotiate the check. Anyone in possession of it could cash it before it reached the Payee.
From a security perspective, this would be a weak link in the financial industry's attempt to deter criminal activities. Cashier's Checks payable to cash could be used for money laundering and your bank would want no part of that.
