Opening New Account after Chexsystem Filing

I had an account that was turned over to Chexsystem. I have since paid off the account, but now am getting married and looking to open a joint account. Will my past banking errors affect my ability to do this?

It's possible that your past record, even though you've paid everything off, could affect your ability to open a checking account. Try to obtain documentation of the fact that you've paid off your old bank. If a bank is put off by a ChexSystems report, you can show the bank that you've settled the obligation. That might not help with some banks, but other banks may agree to open an account based on the paid off debt.
