I am a minor looking to open a checking account in Massachusetts independent of my parents. I have been to several banks but most of them brush me off or don't know what they are doing. I want to use the account to send and receive checks and online payments. How should I go about setting up this account?
Bankers are often reluctant to open checking accounts for minors, particularly if there is no adult family member who will co-own the account. That's because there's no law in Massachusetts that allows a minor to open an account that a minor can't simply walk away from, but keep trying. There may be a bank that is willing to open an account and welcome you as a customer.
