I made a deposit to my checking account, but the available balance doesn't show this new amount. When will my bank add that amount to my available balance? It's been a day so far!
Checks and other items deposited into your account are often not immediately available. It can take time for a deposited check to work its way through the clearing system back to the bank on which the check is drawn. Banks have a schedule they may follow that allows for this when that check was deposited to a checking account. (This is know to bankers as Reg CC - Expedited Funds Availability) Some banks apply the same rules to savings deposits, but they are not required to do so under federal law.
If your bank places a special hold on the deposit, they will notify you of this either by mail or when the deposit is made. This notice will tell you why it is being held and when it will be available. Absent a special hold on the deposit, ask your bank when the check will be available and they can tell you. If you have the disclosures your bank gave you on funds availability, that may also answer your question, though not as succinctly as a call to customer service.
