Can a minor have a checking account, savings account, or safe deposit box without having a parent on the account also?
This is one of those "it depends on your state laws" answers. In some states a minor may have an account and in some they are not of the age to contract, so they can't. In Texas, as one example, a minor may have a checking or savings account, but a parent may notify the bank that they want to be added to the account and they will be or the account is closed. Also, the bank may opt to allow a minor to have an account, or they can choose not to open accounts for minors. As to a safe deposit box, that is actually a lease so you have a landlord tenant agreement. In most cases we know of that would require the person to have reached the age of majority or to be emancipated. Again though, this could vary by state.
