US Citizens Rights to International Bank Accounts

I collect antiques and frequently make purchases via phone auctions in the U.K. I think it might be easier to make transactions if I had a bank account and/or credit card on a bank in the U.K. that would be more local to the seller. Is it possible for a U.S. resident and citizen to have an account in a U.K. bank?

Your U.S. issued credit card should be perfectly acceptable to any seller in the U.K. that accepts MasterCard or Visa transactions. Using a credit card provides you with protections you won't get with a foreign checking account, and restricting your activities to a U.S. credit card account will ensure that you're familiar with how things work. If there are pressing reasons to seek a checking account in the U.K., however, contact a U.S. branch of a U.K. bank to make inquiries.
