I am talking to a girl in Russia and she would like to come here. She seems pretty decent, but what does decent sound like? She needs $1,600 (US) and she gave me account details for the deposit to her Russian account, but I would like someone with an idea of banking to tell me what kind of account this is and if it is really hers. (Account details were deleted for this question.) There is a girl's life in the balance here and I would hate either to be scammed or for her to lose her freedom.
There is no way to tell if it is really her account or not. More often than not, these are scams and you are wise to ask before you send any money.
There are men who travel to Russia for prospective brides, where they meet the women first. To blindly send funds to someone you've only corresponded with over the internet would not be a wise choice. You could lose that money, and if you provide her with your bank account information, you could lose even more. Check out the situation through internet searches on similar scams, with the Better Business Bureau, with your bank, local law enforcement and even the State Department if you are from the US.
