I already have a checking account with one bank and was wondering if there were any downsides to opening another checking account at another bank in order to keep the purpose for certain amounts of money separate?
You absolutely may have multiple accounts, and you may choose to keep the separate accounts at one bank, because you like the fee structure and locations, or at multiple banks.
There is no restriction on the number of accounts you may have.
