I am the primary holder on a bank account and have two other people on the account with me. One of them has negative information in the Chex System database. I want know if that matters when opening a checking account.
If the information in the ChexSystems database is recorded under that individual's name alone, it should not affect your ability to open an account unless you plan to make the account joint with that individual. If we put it another way, you are linked to that individual's record only if you were a co-owner of the account or accounts that caused the record to be made. If your own record of handling accounts has been clean, there should be no negative information in the ChexSystems database in your name.
If one of the other two individuals on the account with you creates problems with this account (even if that individual is only an authorized signer), and your bank reports that problem to ChexSystems, the record will be in your name. Then you might have a problem opening another account, depending on the nature of the problem and whether it is resolved. If you want a spotless record for handing your deposit accounts, you have to keep an eye on anyone sharing those accounts with you.
