Can the bank withdraw funds from my account for a credit card payment without my consent?
The bank would not remove any funds from your account unless they believe you authorized the debit, or they were instructed by a court to do so. Does this mean an unscrupulous collector wouldn't try to abuse some old authority you had given to make a debit? It does not. It has happened before. Sometimes though, there may also be some type of agreement to make a debit that has not expired. In any case, your bank with the deposit account may only know that a request was received and they acted on that.
Speak with your bank and inquire as to what authority the debit was made under. They'll investigate it if you say that you granted no authority and they'll report back to you.
