I am in the process of purchasing some land, and I need to know, if they back out, can I cancel a cashier's check that I wrote for them?
If you purchased a cashier's check from a bank, arranging to have it payable to the sellers of the land you've mentioned, you, as the purchaser of the check, should be able to return it to the issuing bank and swap the check for a refund. The bank will be entitled to keep its fee for it. You'll need to be able to demonstrate that you bought the check, but the bank's records should have that information.
