I purchased a cashier's check made out to a specific institution, and now I do not want to remit payment to them. What can I do with the cashier's check now?

If you can document that you bought the check (you may even be listed on its face as the remitter), you can take it back to the issuing bank, which will have a procedure for canceling the check and issuing you a refund. You will probably not get a refund of any fee you paid to buy the check.
