Determining Validity of Certified Check

I have a certified check made out to me for $2500. The sender's name on the check is "Chevron" and the bank's name is "First National Bank". Is this check good?

Its really not possible to determine whether the check is any good just by what you have written. To see if the check is likely to be genuine, find out which of hundreds of "First National Banks" the check is drawn on, your bank may be able to help you with that, find a telephone listing for that bank, and give them a call. Did you do something to earn the payment? Perform a service, sell stock, or do something else that would lead you to expect the payment? If not, you should be suspicious that the check is fraudulent.
