I deposited a check in my checking account on Oct. 16, 2008 and even though it cleared and the bank confirmed the check with the issuing bank that sent the check, they will not release money. Why?
Seems strange that the bank won't release your funds at this point, nearly two months after the deposit. If you think you are being ignored by whoever you've been dealing with at the bank, ask to speak with a supervisor.
Was the check by any chance drawn on a bank outside the U.S.? It's not unusual for a prolonged hold to be placed when foreign checks are deposited, since those banks don't follow U.S. law on check clearing, even so, two months seems extraordinarily long.
