Tracing Uncashed Cashier's Check

Can a cashiers check be traced if it was never cashed?

The bank that issued the cashier's check can verify if it has been cashed. They should also have a record of who purchased it and when. If a sufficient amount of time has passed, the check can be reissued after a bond is purchased to stand in, just in case the original does show up and is requested to be cashed.
