Verifying a Check and Getting Documentation

What is the best way to verify a certified check and a cashier's check with the issuing bank (bank employee name and or employee id#)? How can I obtain a fax of a written verification of a certified or cashier's check from the issuing bank?

If you are not able to visit the bank in person to verify the check, you can try contacting the bank by telephone. Some banks will verify their checks over the telephone, and some will not. No bank will put a verification to writing, since any verification is accurate only at the time it is made, and could change based on information not known at the time of verification. If you can't get verification, ask your bank to send the check for collection, if you are doubtful about it and if the dollar amount makes the collection fee a reasonable cost for you.
