Putting a Stop Payment on a Cashier's Check?

I sold my car to a stranger. We both went to Bank of America, where he purchased a cashier's check for $11,000 and handed to me to deposit into my account at the same time. Can the stranger request that the Bank of America to do a stop payment on the cashier's check that I deposited?

He can request that a stop be put on the check, but BofA should refuse his request. Cashier's checks are not subject to stop payment rights, although there is a procedure that works like a stop payment of sorts if there's a claim that a cashier's check has been lost, stolen or destroyed. The procedure leaves the issuing bank liable on the original cashier's check for at least 90 days from the date of issue, so your prompt deposit of the check should prevent your suffering any loss if the buyer tries to pull a fast one on you.
