When selling a car to a private party, what's a safer payment method, personal check or cashier's check?
A cashier's check is by far preferable to a personal check. If you can, meet with the purchaser at the bank issuing the cashier's check, so that you'll be able to verify for yourself that it's genuine. The purchaser can stop payment on a personal check, but not on a cashier's check.
