Can a certified check be reissued? How long does it remain valid?
There is no expiration on the validity of a certified check, although the bank that certified it may have to surrender the funds to the state as abandoned property after two or more years, depending on state laws. If the funds have been surrendered to the state, the state will have procedures for reclaiming them. If the payee of a certified check loses it, the payee can, in most states, file a claim that it was lost with the certifying bank, wait until ninety or more days has passed since the date of certification, and assuming that the bank has not had to pay the check in the meantime, obtain payment or a replacement check.
