When the MICR line on a check is read, does it give the account owner's personal information?
The MICR line is an example of "what you see is what you get." There is nothing in it other than the numerals that you can read with your eye.
When a check arrives at the bank it's drawn on for payment, that bank can identify the account to be charged, and that account number then can be linked to the other information on the account and customer, but no third party can see anything other than what appears on the check.
