Determining Where a Check was Cashed

How can I tell, by looking at the back of a cashed check, where it was cashed?

Look for a series of nine digits with arrows at each end, pointing inward:

-->123456789<-- or >123456789<

That should be the identifying number of the bank that cashed the check or took it for deposit. Your bank should be able to give you the name and location of the identified bank.
