Retrieving Funds from Uncashed Cashier's Check

I bought a $2500 cashier's check in 2007. It has not been cashed. It was payable to a company that has since been closed and the owners were indicted for fraud. Can I get the funds back from this check?

If you still have the check and can document that you purchased it, you should be able to turn it in at the bank where it was purchased and obtain the funds. If you no longer have the check, but know that it has not been paid by the issuing bank, ask the bank about a claim that the check has been lost, stolen or destroyed. After completing some paperwork and an affidavit for the claim, the bank should reimburse you.
