I deposited a cashier's check into my account. Three days later, my bank called saying they lost it. They told me I could not receive the funds for ninety days. What rights do I have to my money. I have a deposit slip for this money.
Keep after the bank to continue searching for the check. It could turn up. However, the bank acts only as your agent in collecting the check, so it is not obliged to cover you while the search continues.
You do have a right to file a "lost, stolen or destroyed" cashier's check claim with the bank that issued it. Assuming that the check has not already been paid, that bank can then replace the funds after ninety days from the issue date of the original check.
