Bank Won't Cash Traveler's Checks

As a tourist, I tried to cash traveler's checks. The bank said I had to have an account before they could cash them. Is this true? Can they limit service to account holders only?

Unless the bank has a contract with the issuer of the traveler's checks that would require that it cash them with appropriate identification, the bank is under no obligation to accept the checks from anyone. Top
