As a tourist, I tried to cash traveler's checks. The bank said I had to have an account before they could cash them. Is this true? Can they limit service to account holders only?
Unless the bank has a contract with the issuer of the traveler's checks that would require that it cash them with appropriate identification, the bank is under no obligation to accept the checks from anyone.
