Can a stop payment be put on a cashier's check the same day it was issued to me?
Cashier's checks are not subject to stop payments. An issuing bank, however, could refuse to pay its cashier's check to the purchaser payee if it has a valid claim against that person. For example, if the issuing of the check was discovered to have been in error (an account closed for the wrong amount), the bank could refuse to pay the check if presented by the payee later. If the check is presented by a third party to whom it had been negotiated in good faith (another bank that took it for deposit, for example), the issuing bank's defense to payment would not be available, and it would be obliged to pay the check.
