Should I Try to Cash 9 Year Old Cashier's Check?

I have an old cashier's check (1999) issued to me in my name for $1000. It is in perfect condition, has the issuing bank's name, check number and bank person who signed the check. I called the issuing bank and they said they have no record of it, but that I should try to deposit it at my local bank. Is my check good? Am I protected for funding by the FDIC? What should I do?

There is something wrong with this scenario. We cannot imagine that a bank would claim it has no record of a check and suggest you deposit it anyhow, particularly with a nine-year-old check involved.

The deposit backing that check has probably been surrendered to the state under the state's abandoned property law. Ask the issuing bank if it has transferred the funds to the state treasurer under that law. If the bank can't tell you whether the transfer was made, you can check the state's abandoned property yourself. Start here.
