I received a refund check from an insurance company that was made out to the estate of my mother's name. I have power of attorney and her name is still on my bank account. How do I sign this check so I can deposit it in the account?
A power of attorney won't do you much good, because it is no longer effective after your mother's death. The check needs to be negotiated by the personal representative -- an executor or administrator -- of your mother's estate.
