Endorsing a Signed Over Check

I have a son who has no bank account. He has a check from an insurance company, and is signing it over to me to deposit into my account. How do I sign it under his endorsement on the back?

All you need to do is sign your name underneath your son's endorsement. You can add "for deposit only" under his signature and above yours, if you wish.

Before you endorse the check, though, check to make sure your bank will accept it for deposit to your account. Some banks are reluctant to accept second endorsements, since they can't verify the first one. The more established your banking relationship at your bank, the better chance you'll have of assuring the bank that you're good for the check in the event there's a problem. You'd have to cover the check if the insurance company bounced it.
