I found an old check from a bank. Do they still owe me this money? It is from four years ago.
Unless they paid you in some other way, they still owe you the money. If the check you have is a bank check, often called a cashier's, teller's, or official check, the bank should still honor it.
However, check with the issuing bank first before you deposit it and start spending the money. State laws vary, but it's possible that your bank has already surrendered the funds behind that check to the state. That won't mean you can't get your money; it only means that you'll need to wait a bit.
Start with the issuing bank to find out whether they still have the check outstanding on their books. Don't waste any more time. If the bank still holds those funds, you won't want them to get turned over to the state because of any further delays.
