I received my mother's economic stimulus package check; however, she passed away at the begining of April. It has her name on it with my address. I have an order to dispense from the state in which she died. I live in another state. I'm wondering if I can deposit it into my bank account?
No, the check can only be endorsed and negotiated by the personal representative of your mother's estate (executor or administrator). If no personal representative is or will be named, the check should be returned to the Internal Revenue Service, where a decision will have to be made on whether the payment can be reissued.
