Endorsing Check for a Minor

How do I endorse and deposit a check made out to a minor?

Before you do anything, take the check to your bank to make sure the bank will accept the check for deposit. The bank will probably suggest that you, as parent, sign the check using something like this wording:

NAME OF MINOR
BY: (Your signature)
Parent

If you are planning to deposit the check to your account, you should endorse it again for yourself. If your child is old enough to print or write his or her own name, your bank might suggest that the child endorse the check himself or herself, assuming the bank knows the child, and that you endorse it for deposit. That provides a mini-lesson in banking and adds importance to the event.
