My husband and I owned a mortgage company and shut it down at the end of last year. I kept the bank account open, but within the past few months decided to close it. We just received a refund check from a vendor made out to the business. How can we cash this check without reopening a business account for business that is now closed? Nothing legally has been done to disolve the company, but I do not want to open an account to cash a $700 check.
If your bank knows the background, it may suggest that you go ahead and endorse the check in the name of the company, and then endorse it yourself for deposit to your personal account. Approach the bank and pose the question there.
