I have a check that is payable to me and two other persons. It lists all three names with no 'and' or 'or'. I live in Florida. Can one person endorse and deposit it?
This is controlled by the Uniform Commercial Code, which is approved individually by each state. The common rule says that if the check isn't specific with the term "and", then it defaults to being payable to each, as though it says "or", and any one person can negotiate it. Some banks are hesitant to abide by this because they see risk there. They may want signatures and proof that it was the other payees who endorsed the check. Ask your bank in advance.
