I have a paycheck which I misplaced and just recently found. It is over two years old. Can I still cash it?
Checks are considered stale after six months. While this item may still go through the payment system and be paid as though it was from last week, it could also be caught and returned for any number of reasons. Your bank may charge you a fee if a check you deposit to your account is returned.
The safest thing is to contact the company or person who wrote you that check and ask for a replacement item. Destroy the old check and deposit the new one.
